Data Analysis Project in Excel: Layoff Trends Dashboard


In this video, we’ll walk you through a comprehensive data analysis project using Excel. The objective of this project is to analyze the layoff data of a company and create an interactive Excel dashboard with Macros that provides comprehensive insights into layoff trends.

The project involves several steps:

1. Data Collection: We’ll obtain the layoff dataset from Kaggle, a well-known platform for sharing and discovering datasets. We’ll guide you on how to access Kaggle, search for the relevant dataset, evaluate the datasets, and download the suitable one for further analysis.

2. Understanding the Dataset: The chosen dataset contains key fields such as Company, Location_HQ, Industry, Percentage, Date, Funds_Raised, Stage, Date_Added, Country, Laid_Off_Count, and List_of_Employees_Laid_Off. We’ll explore the dataset which has 2739 rows and 12 columns, and discuss the data types and missing values in the dataset.

3. Data Pre-processing: This step involves transforming raw data into a format that is more suitable for analysis. We’ll show you how to convert the date column to datetime, extract information of each unique type, check for duplicates and null values, and reduce unwanted data.

4. Data Visualization and Dashboard Creation: Finally, we’ll design a visually appealing dashboard with charts and slicers. The dashboard will include a pie chart showing layoffs by Year, a bar chart depicting layoffs by Industry, and a line chart illustrating layoffs trend by Month.

By the end of this video, you’ll have a comprehensive understanding of how to perform advanced analytics on a dataset using Excel, and how to create an interactive dashboard that allows users to explore layoff patterns visually.
