In a shocking turn of events, the Nigerian Army has confirmed that a soldier mistakenly killed a 16-year-old boy, Ismail Mohammed, during the #EndBadGovernance protest in Zaria, Kaduna State on August 6, 2024. According to Major General Onyeama Nwachukwu, the tragic incident occurred when soldiers were called to disperse a group of protesters who had turned violent. The situation escalated, leading a soldier to fire a warning shot that inadvertently struck Mohammed. The responsible soldier has been detained and is under investigation. Following the incident, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, sent a delegation to offer condolences to the victim's family, and Mohammed was laid to rest with military honors.
