A State visit, we must stress, is a formal visit by a head of a sovereign country to another sovereign country, at the invitation of the Head of State of that foreign country. Its primary purpose is to confirm the good relationship between the countries concerned. It is no longer news that French President Emmanuel Macron, welcomed President Bola Tinubu to the Elysee Palace in Paris, after close to more than two decades of a state visit by a Nigerian leader. Paris, we can tell you, is seeking to cement ties with anglophone nations, after former French colonies, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, severed ties with France and turned to Russia for succour. President Macron had sought a renewal of ties between Paris and Africa, moreso with Nigeria, as the most populous country on the African continent.
