cpls (Cold Process Liquid Soap Making) Tutorial with Recipe

The recipe I used is based on Tina Moenck's that she shares on her video, "Liquid Soap Making for Beginners." It is:

80% olive oil
5.7% castor oil
14.3% coconut oil
0% Superfat
Regular discount for distilled water


.5-1% preservative (add when paste is disluted)

I added 1 heaping tablespoon of honey to my lye water for my 20 ounces of oil recipe.

The second time I made this soap using this process, the the water was cloudy after the clarity test, but it has been improving with time; I have just left the container of soap covered on the kitchen counter.

To superfat, you can add Turkey Red Oil (Sulfated Castor Oil) at 1% of the diluted soap. It is water soluble, so it won't separate. Another option is to use glycerin at 1% of the diluted soap.

To dilute, start with 12 ounces of distilled water to every pound of soap paste. Leave that overnight to dissolve. Pour off the liquid part and then add water to the remaining paste. To calculate how much water to add, multiply the weight of the soap paste by 75% or .75 and add that amount to the paste.
