"Art Creativity" Exhibition Series in the Greater Bay Area──Déjà vu, perhaps?

Walking down familiar roads and streets, have you ever noticed that familiar sights are changing all the time? Homes and buildings, corner shops, street-side stalls…they are disappearing in a losing battle with the changing times. Small though these changes may be, day by day, they replace familiar sights and sounds, and before we know it, the cityscape is unrecognisable. Artist Margaret Chu and designer So Kwok Kin miss the impermanent people and objects that have been lost in time silently and yearn for a reunion.

With the moon and the waves as a metaphor for people coming together and moving apart, Margaret Chu uses a poetic, artistic medium and commonplace materials to express her thoughts and feelings. In an encounter on a particular night between the moon and the waves, the moon shines on the sea while the waves respond with crests. This dialogue marks how they come together and then move apart. As time passes, perhaps every encounter is a reunion after a long separation. So Kwok Kin uses retro architectural elements and contemporary artistic approaches to give expression to his imagination. He transforms what are gradually disappearing architectural elements into living species that cling to different infrastructure and grow in silence, giving the cityscape a strange face. In this exhibition, be it a familiar natural landscape or the surreal cityscape, they invariably ring a bell in our memory. It's déjà vu, a feeling that you have seen or heard something before, perhaps?
